Phillip Island

One of the most amazing days here in Australia (so far) was out on Phillip Island. It took about 1,5 hours by bus from Melbourne. A large part of the island is protected and the roads close at sunset so no one is allowed to be there during the night. The reason is because of the little penguins. After sundown they come from the sea and walk to their nests. This walk can be as far as 7 km. We were lucky to go to be able to go to the penguin parade and see the little blue penguins emerge from the water and walk across the beach and into the bushes. They are about 1 foot tall and weigh approximately 1 kg and are so adorable!!! However, you are not allowed to take pictures after sundown since the little penguins can go blind if the flash is on. But just google “Penguin Parade Phillip Island” and there will be pictures :)

We also went to the free range wildlife Park on Phillip Island were the main attraction is the kangaroos and wallabies. The park was very spacious and the animals seems to like it there. I couldn’t stop smiling because there were wallabies and kangaroos everywhere and we could just walk among them and feed them. They are just so cute!!! There were also koalas and emus as well as other Australian animals. However, these animals were in larger cages. In Victoria you are not allowed to hold koalas and you need a licence to be able to hold one. I cannot remember the reason why but they said to go to Queensland if we wanted to hold one – we will go there soon!

We had an amazing day, lovely weather and met lots of new exchange students.
