O'-Weeks at Monash
During the past 2 weeks I have moved into my on-campus accommodation and been participating in the university’s orientation. There have been four different orientations at the same time: Roberts Hall orientation (my residence hall), MRS (Monash Residential Services) which include all student residences on campus, Monash Abroad for all exchange & international students as well as the engineering faculty orientation.
For Roberts’ orientation we did a lot of activities to get to one another as well as get to know the area we live in (grocery stores etc.). We went roller-skating at the Caribbean Rollerama one evening, had trivia night with another hall, went to stand-up comedy and had several cooking classes. For Monash Abroad orientation it was mostly settle-in sessions, evening activities like going to the Eureka sky deck or the Queen Victoria Winter Market. They also organised the Phillip Island trip as well as a day out to Healesville Sanctuary. It has been a great couple of weeks with activities the entire day.
The dorm life is new to me but I like it here. For this two past weeks most of us living in Roberts Hall have been exchange students (approx. 50 of us) and some Australian students who have been taking care of us. In a couple of days there will be 180 students living here in this hall… My hall (Roberts) consists of 8 stairways. Each stairway has 5 floors and on each floor there are 4 rooms. Each floor has a bathroom but there is only one communal kitchen for all 8 stairways. We have a lot of common areas as well: 3 common rooms, a tv-room, laundry facilities and the best thing is that it is only 5 minutes to campus!
